Protected area of the Dominican Republic, the Los Haïtises National Park offers to the visitor not only the chance to discover an impressive massive limestone combination and small tropical islands, but also the occasion to appreciate various ecosystems: Tropical mangrove, marine meadows and rock small islands throughout the coastal area of the Park.

In the park, the red and the white mangrove prevail. Regarding the fauna, the birds are the most numerous, 110 species of the 270 which live in the country, among which we can find the largest colony of the Caribbean of the species specific to the mangroves, like herons, egrets and other waders.

And also a representation of the endemic, native or migratory birds, like the pelican, the frigate or the vulture.

Thanks to its varied fauna and with the diversity of its landscapes, the Los Haïtises National Park is considered as the best protected natural surfaces of the country.

The mammals are also present like bats or jutia (small rodent) and solenodonte (small insectivorous mammal), species threatened of extinction. The increasingly rare manatee forms also part of the marine animal-life of the park.

High place of the resistance of the Taïno Indians, the visit of the caves and worship places is also part of the program. Petroglyphs and pictograms of great historical and archaeological value will be explained to you in detail.
